What services does this resource provide?

The Shiga Toxin-Producing Escherichia coli (STEC) Center maintains a repository for Shiga-toxin producing E. coli. The Center acquires isolates from new outbreaks and environments as they are identified; characterizes them based on genetic markers of clonal identity and virulence genes and sequences flagellin and toxin genes to subtype strains; and establishes and distributes strains and sets of STEC reference strains to investigators.

The Center also makes databases, protocols, and computer programs available on line.

Where are the services provided?

STEC is housed within the Microbiology Research Unit at Michigan State University, one of the six research components of the NIAID Food and Waterborne Diseases Integrated Research Network (non-Government link).
