Department of Health and Human Services
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR)

The Molecular Physiology and Therapeutics Branch, Division of Intramural Research (DIR), NIDCR, invites applications for an Assistant Clinical Investigator (Instructor/Assistant Professor Equivalent) position.  The selected individual will provide experience and expertise to expand our ongoing translational research activities in biomarker discovery and interventional studies in salivary gland dysfunction. The incumbent will develop a translational research program, including a basic research component to identify and validate novel biomarkers for salivary gland diseases as well as a clinical research component to use these markers in the study of the pathogenesis of these conditions.  The Molecular Physiology and Therapeutics Branch (MPTB) in NIDCR performs clinical and basic investigations of salivary glands in health and disease, including Sjögren’s Syndrome and radiation induced salivary gland damage. Clinical studies include long-term natural history studies in Sjögren’s Syndrome on the interaction between chronic inflammation and salivary gland dysfunction and therapeutic protocols both for Sjögren’s Syndrome and radiation induced salivary gland dysfunction.
