Leavitt, HHS Release 2008 Report on Personalized Medicine; Includes caBIG® Case Study

On November 14, Secretary Leavitt and the Department of Health and Human Services released their 2008 Report on Personalized Medicine entitled, “Personalized Health Care: Pioneers, Partnerships, Progress.” The Community Case Study on caBIG® begins on page 183. This year’s report focuses on a sampling of activities that are now underway in different parts of the private and academic health care sectors toward integrating personalized health care into clinical practice. This includes efforts to employ genomics and other molecular level techniques in clinical care; the use of health information technology in care, including the integration of clinical care with research goals; and the realignment of traditional organizations toward enhanced individualization of treatment and patient-centric approaches.
