Congressional Hearings and Testimony on Genetic Discrimination in Health Insurance and EmploymentThe House and Senate have held several hearings on the subject of genetic discrimination in the past few years. Francis S. Collins was a witness at the July 11, 2001 hearing before the Senate Labor, Health & Human Services and Education Appropriations Committee regarding the future of genomic science, which included a discussion of genetic discrimination. Dr. Collins also testified on July 25, 2001 at a hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on genetic discrimination in insurance. On February 13, 2002, the HELP committee held a hearing focusing on issues of genetic discrimination in employment.
