WebMIRS Proxy Setup (using Java Web Start)

If you are getting the following error dialog message:

"Can't connect to server - there may be a firewall in the way. java.net.ConnectException:Operation time out"

and you have a Proxy Server configured at your site, you may be able to work around this intervening firewall. Here are the steps:

  1. Bring up the Java Web Start Application Manager. You can do this by either double-clicking on the Java Web Start shortcut from your desktop (it's supposed to look like a red button), or from the Window "Start" menu.
  2. From the JWS Application Manager, select File->Preferences.
  3. On the "General" tab, select the "Manual" radio button, and enter the machine and port information for your local proxy server. You will need to get this info from your local system administrator.
  4. Select "OK" to save your changes.

Depending on the configuration of your firewall, this may or may not fix the problem. At the current time, this is the only way to get around a firewall in WebMIRS. A more complete solution will be provided in the future.
