Imaging Workspace Meetings

January 5, 2009 - The 01/05/09 Imaging Community Teleconference began with an announcement that tools landing pages are now available on the caBIG® website for the Imaging product line and for caMicroscope. A National Cancer Imaging Archive (NCIA) project update was then provided by the project team, with the call concluding with a presentation of the Algorithm Validation Tools (AVT) Phase II Business Use Case Model – for which an update will be provided during an early February 2009 caBIG® Imaging Community Teleconference.

December 15, 2008 - The 12/15 Imaging Workspace Teleconference began with a discussion led by Mukesh Sharma of Washington University. After providing the group with an introduction to the CDE Leadership Group, Mukesh led the group in a discussion around imaging harmonization. This discussion resulted in the decision to include Imaging WS SMEs in Imaging harmonization discussions going forward, and the conclusion that Imaging harmonization efforts will now take into account the Imaging WS projects currently planned or underway. The group then discussed submitting a proposal against a solicitation recently released by the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) for the development of an image sharing infrastructure. The result of this discussion was a decision to pursue this solicitation, and to finalize within the next week the aims of the proposal along with the roles & responsibilities group members will assume to complete the proposal.

November 17, 2008 - This call was dedicated to preparations for the Imaging WS’ presence at the upcoming RSNA (Radiological Society of North America) 2008 Annual Meeting. An AVT (Algorithm Validation Tools) II project update was also provided by Bob Schwanke of Siemens Corporate Research, in which recent accomplishments and near term challenges were discussed. Discussed in detail was the status of AVT’s involvement with its initial user community, which will progress in the coming months.

October 20, 2008 - During the opening of the call, attendees were informed that going forward the Imaging WS’ activities will be a component of the CTMS (Clinical Trials Management Systems) WS. The details of this move are currently being worked out. The group was also informed that Imaging WS Leadership is working on finalizing the tool landing pages for all Imaging tools. After the opening a short planning session was conducted for the RSNA 2008 caBIG® Imaging Demo. Attendees were then pointed to the minutes and next steps documents from the September 2008 Imaging WS Face-to-Face Meeting, with the call concluding with an AVT Phase II Project Update.

October 6, 2008 - Deliverable Review & Strategic Planning - A status update was provided on the Algorithm Validation Tools (AVT) Phase II Project, and a debrief was provided on the recent American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) meeting that was attended by several Imaging Workspace participants. A discussion was also held around the details of the Imaging Workspace's demo at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2008 Annual Meeting. Lastly, the group discussed the implications of the caBIG® program's move towards service oriented architecture for the Imaging Workspace.

August 25, 2008 - Project Engineering Teleconference - The 8/25/08 caBIG® Imaging Workspace "Project Engineering" Call opened with the community being provided updates and reminders for the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 2008 Annual Symposium and the AMIA 2009 Summit on Translational Bioinformatics. The workspace was then presented with the caBIG® enterprise use cases, which have been defined by caBIG® leadership and are intended to be used as a harmonization model across all caBIG® workspaces to describe how caBIG® tools, applications and infrastructure may support real-world workflows. It was decided that the workspace will resume discussion around these use cases on the 9/15/08 caBIG® Imaging "All Hands" Teleconference. Another important discussion was held around the National Cancer Imaging Archive (NCIA) DICOM Object Model changes, with a decision made that a sub-committee will be convened during the September 9th & 10th Imaging Face-to-Face Meeting in Stanford University to review these object model changes. The entire Imaging community was invited to send their feedback to Vikram Purohit (purohit_vikram@bah.com) before this meeting, to ensure that the community's feedback is represented in the sub-committee's discussions.

August 18, 2008 - The caBIG® Imaging Workspace was informed during the opening of the call that the NCI has stated that an Imaging Knowledge Center is a priority for the next fiscal year. The latest draft agenda for the September 2008 Imaging Face-to-Face Meeting was then presented to the community, after which project updates were provided for NIVIS, the NCIA, and XIP. An update was also provided on NCIA adoption efforts currently underway with the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and the UK's University of Leeds, as well as for the VirtualPACS installation underway for the Cardiovascular Research Grid (CVRG) project. A brief discussion was also held around external collaborations the Imaging Workspace could help caBIG® forge, specifically with the DICOM, IHE, CTSA, and UPICT initiatives.

August 4, 2008 - Deliverable Review & Strategic Planning Teleconference - During the opening of this call, participants were updated on the preparations that are underway for the Imaging Face-to-Face Meeting and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2008 Annual Meeting. Additionally, the community was also informed about the "Biomedical Informatics Without Borders" NCI - NCRI Meeting to be held on September 2nd & 3rd in Bethesda, Maryland. The bulk of the meeting was dedicated to discussions around the NIVIS Project, with the community deciding that this topic will be taken up for discussion at the Imaging Face-to-Face Meeting after a white paper that defines use cases to feed into the NIVIS requirements has been circulated to the community, and after clarifications have been provided on the solicitation preparation timeline and proposed project length.

July 21, 2008 - Imaging All Hands Teleconference - caBIG Imaging Workspace community members were informed that the NCI will determine the workspace's budget for the next fiscal year by early September 2008. The workspace was also reminded that in the coming fiscal year, Booz Allen Hamilton will be managing workgroup contracts while SAIC-Frederick will manage developer and adopter projects. The NIVIS project is a high priority item for the next fiscal year, and the NCI would like the workspace to continue defining requirements for the project. Teleconference attendees also discussed meeting planning, in which it was noted that caBIG Imaging's presence at the RSNA 2008 Annual Meeting will consist only of demos. Also discussed were layout details for the September 2008 Imaging Face-to-Face Meeting.

July 7, 2008 - Deliverable Review & Strategic Planning Teleconference - This teleconference began with a discussion about the NIVIS RFP, in which the caBIG Imaging community was informed that no awards have been made based on this solicitation.
