Proprietary SIG

The Proprietary SIG is part of the DSIC Workspace and is concerned with intellectual property matters that affect both the distribution of open source software and data sharing.  Topics addressed by the Proprietary SIG include:

  • Guidance and research on data sharing practices, including ownership, access and use rights of data contributors/providers, patients/human subjects participants, and data requestors/users
  • Model language for contractual agreements related to sharing data and biospecimens
  • Open source software licensing and model licensing agreement provisions
  • Protection of “intellectual capital” (authorship, attribution and other needs of individual investigators)

The Proprietary SIG is part of the Data Sharing and Intellectual Capital (DSIC) Workspace

Who should get involved

The Proprietary SIG welcomes participation from individuals interested in patient privacy, regulatory compliance and intellectual property issues associated with sharing research data. Participant activities include attending bi-weekly teleconferences and periodic face-to-face meetings, commenting on products under development or review by either SIG or the DSIC Workspace as a whole, and conducting more in-depth work in pursuit of Proprietary SIG goals.

Individuals interested in participating in the Proprietary SIG are invited to join the Proprietary SIG Listserv. Information about the bi-monthly conference calls are sent out on the Listserv.
