    Search Invention Reports


Note: The search fields on this page are all optional. Use any desired combination of the fields to perform the invention report search.

  1. Select Main Menu | Search/Modify Existing Invention Reports to access the Invention Report Search - Search For iEdison Invention Report page.
  2. Enter the desired search information, noting the following:
    • Your search will encompass all the invention reports from your organization and from other grantee or contractor organizations that have given your organization permission to view their invention reports.
  3. Click Submit to enter the search and open the Invention Report Search - Results for Invention Report Search page.
  4. A list of matching invention reports is displayed. Note the following information about the invention report list:
    • Results are sorted alphabetically by invention title in ascending order.
    • Click Add Patent Report to associate a new patent report with the selected invention report. The Create New Patent Report - Patent Report Form page is displayed. See Add/Modify Patent Reports for more information regarding adding patent reports.
    • Click Modify Invention Report to view or make modifications to the selected invention report. The Modify Invention Report - Invention Report Form page is displayed. See Add/Modify Invention Reports for more information regarding modifying invention reports.
    • Click Manage Utilization Reports to add/modify/view utilization reports for the selected invention report. The Manage Utilization Reports - Utilization Report Year page is displayed. See Add/Modify/View Utilization Reports for more information regarding adding/modifying/viewing utilization information.
  Field Definitions
Invention Report Number

The Invention Report number is automatically generated by the iEdison system for a new Invention Report once the data has been submitted, checked for errors, and verified. The number is unique for every invention, it can never be duplicated and never recycled.

The Invention Report number can contain up to 18 characters. The first 7 characters, before the dash, may vary in length from 4, 5, 6, or 7 values. However, the second half (##-####) must contain values. The complete format for the field is: ##########-##-####.

Invention Docket Number

The invention docket number field is provided for the convenience of iEdison users as a unique identifier to help track the associated invention. Any combination of numbers and letters may be used to define the invention docket number. If an invention docket number is not provided, the iEdison system sets the value equal to the last 6 digits of the Invention Report number.

Invention Title

The invention title reflects the title of the invention as it appears in the Employee's Invention Report.

Invention Keyword

The invention keyword field is optional. It enables the grantee/contractor organization to categorize Invention Reports.

The iEdison system allows up to 12 keywords to be associated with each Invention Report.

Invention Report Date

The invention report date is the date that the invention was disclosed to the government.

The format for this field is mm/dd/yyyy.

Inventor Name (First)
Inventor Name (Last)

The inventor fields reflect full name of each inventor associated with the invention. Any combination of upper- and lower-case letters may be used. The first- and last-name fields may be used to search for inventors associated with the Invention Report.

Grant/Contract Number

For each agency contributing to the conception or first actual reduction to practice of the invention, the corresponding grant or contract number must be provided. The format of the grant or contract number is unique to the associated agency. The iEdison system enforces the grant or contract number format for each participating iEdison agency.
