DAY ONE LAUNCH

On September 25, 2002, cardiovascular experts and leading women's health advocates joined the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Museum of Women in the Arts to launch The Heart Truth campaign.  Created to increase awareness about heart disease as the number one killer of women, this national campaign is aimed at motivating women to take heart health seriously, talk with their doctors about it, and take steps to reduce their risks.

The Heart Truth's launch kicked off with a networking breakfast attended by more than 80 women's health professionals and advocates.  This was followed by an unveiling of the campaign including, a "talk show" format discussion on women and heart disease; a presentation of campaign materials; and talks by the American Heart Association; Office on Women's Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and WomenHeart: the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease—the three founding partners—on their involvement in the campaign.  The event concluded with a powerful call to action for women's organizations to get involved in spreading The Heart Truth.

Partner Statements About The Heart Truth

At the launch, The Heart Truth partners praised the campaign and its efforts to help educate women about their risk for heart disease.  They also encouraged women across the country to raise awareness in their communities that heart disease is the #1 killer of women in America.
