Gridley resident and Gridley High School student Michael McConnell was named the winner of the 2008 Congressional Art Competition for California's Second Congressional District. Michael's winning entry, entitled "California Buttes in Bloom," was created using watercolor. His piece was selected as the winner by a panel of respected members of local communities, including local elected officials, business leaders, and members of the media.
The Congressional Art Competition provides high school students the opportunity to compete with other students throughout Northern California for the chance to have his or her piece displayed at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC. Artwork is accepted in any of the following categories: Photography, paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, or computer generated art.
