Herger Applauds "Taxpayer Bill of Rights"

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Herger this week joined fellow members of the Republican Study Committee in launching the "American Taxpayer Bill of Rights."  The RSC is a group of over 110 like-minded House members committed to a fiscally responsibility, limited, accountable government, and traditional values.  The event marked the beginning of a grassroots effort to ensure that Congress never forgets that tax dollars come from and rightly belong to taxpayers, not government.  A picture of Herger speaking at the event and a radio actuality regarding the 'Taxpayer Bill of Rights' can be found at http://www.house.gov/herger.

"Many in the North State are understandably frustrated that spending in Washington is out-of-control and unsustainable, and believe it is completely irresponsible to simply punt this incredible challenge to our children and grandchildren's generations," Herger stated.  "For these reasons, I believe that taxpayers and families across our nation will embrace the four fundamental principles outlined in the 'Taxpayer Bill of Rights.'  It is my deep hope that all elected officials will become more efficient and accountable to the American taxpayer."

The RSC’s American Taxpayer Bill of Rights establishes four basic rights to ensure that the taxpayers across America receive a more efficient and accountable government:

1. Taxpayers have a right to have a federal government that does not grow beyond their ability to pay for it.
2. Taxpayers have a right to receive back each dollar that they entrust to the government for their retirement.
3. Taxpayers have a right to expect the government to balance the budget without having their taxes raised.
4. Taxpayers have a right to a simple, fair tax code that they can understand.

“I agree with those who believe that Washington spends and taxes too much.  I am committed to balancing the budget, cutting wasteful federal spending, and providing further, permanent tax relief.  I hope all Americans will embrace these basic principles and demand that their representatives in Washington never forget whose money they are spending," concluded Herger.
