Obesity Prevention and Treatment : NIDDK

Obesity Prevention and Treatment

This program supports research that focuses on the prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity in humans. Prevention includes primary and secondary approaches to prevent the initial development of overweight/obesity through control of inappropriate weight gain and increases in body fat; weight maintenance among those at risk of becoming overweight, and prevention of weight regain once weight loss has been achieved. Treatment includes clinical trials evaluating approaches to lose weight or maintain weight loss, including, but not limited to, behavioral, pharmacologic, and surgical approaches. This program also includes environmental, policy-based, and population-based approaches to the prevention and/or treatment of obesity.
