NCI-Frederick Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)
The National Cancer Institute-Frederick (NCI-Frederick) established an Institutional Biosafety Committee consistent with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Guidelines. The committee will represent the interests of the surrounding community with respect to public health and protection of the environment, animal containment principles and biological safety. Membership on the committee includes two representatives from the local community. The responsibilities of the IBC include, reviewing rDNA, pathogen, oncogene, and toxin research conducted at or sponsored by the NCI-FREDERICK, set appropriate containment levels for experiments as specified in the NIH Guidelines and CDC/NIH Guidelines. Meetings of the IBC will be held monthly (third Tuesday of the month). All regularly scheduled meetings of the NCI-Frederick IBC are open to all NCI-Frederick employees and the public upon request to the Chairperson. Additional meetings may be called at the discretion of the Chairperson Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's)
