Immunizations

OHS offers immunizations to NCI-Frederick employees to reduce unnecessary occurrence of vaccine-preventable diseases, and to insure that each employee is protected against these diseases. Individuals in certain age, occupational and environmental groups, individuals with special health problems, travelers to foreign countries, and foreign students and immigrants may be at increased risk of exposure or susceptibility to vaccine-preventable diseases.

Each visit to OHS for evaluation, physical examination or bloodwork review provides an opportunity to review the need for any immunizations.

Supervisors inform OHS of the need for an employee to be placed on a surveillance program for a vaccine preventable disease. OHS then contacts the employee and gives them an appointment with a nurse or nurse practitioner for counseling and administration of the vaccination. Employees are given information on the risks of vaccinations as well as their major benefits in preventing disease both in individuals and in the community. There is ample opportunity for questions before each immunization.

Immunizations are also provided to eligible employees who travel to foreign countries on official business. Consultations for personal travel are provided where OHS will determine what vaccinations are necessary and dispense travel kits. See the OHS website travel page for more information.

Available vaccines include, but are not limited to, Hepatitis A and B, Influenza, Meningococcal, Rabies, Rubeola (Measles), Tetanus Diphtheria, Typhoid, Vaccinia, and Yellow Fever.
