DATABASES

Below is a list of searchable databases on a variety of health topics. Feel free to contact the Center for Health Information if you need assistance searching any of these databases.

  • ClinicalTrials.gov - This database from the U.S. Government provides easy access to information on over 5,000 clinical research studies worldwide.
  • Genetics Home Reference - This database from the National Library of Medicine (NLM) provides consumer-friendly information about the effects of genetic variations on human health, and the genes or chromosomes related to genetic conditions.
  • Household Products Database - This database from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offers information on the potential health effects of the ingredients contained in more than 7,000 common household products.
  • Lab Tests Online - This database is designed to help patients and caregivers better understand the many clinical lab tests that are part of routine care as well as diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of conditions and diseases.
  • MedlinePlus - This very comprehensive consumer health database is from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). It provides extensive information about diseases, medical condition, and drugs; an illustrated medical encyclopedia; interactive patient tutorials; and the latest health news.
  • PDQ (Physician Data Query) - This comprehensive cancer database is from the National Institutes of Health. It contains peer-reviewed summaries on cancer treatment, screening, prevention, genetics, and supportive care, and complementary and alternative medicine; a registry of more than 6,000 open and 17,000 closed cancer clinical trials from around the world; and a directory of professionals who provide genetics services.
  • PubMed - This bibliographic database from the National Library of Medicine contains references to journal articles in the life sciences with a concentration on biomedicine. It contains citations from 1950 to the present, with some older material.
