System Interoperability & Harmonization Work Group

The System Interoperability & Harmonization Work Group is focused on establishing national cancer clinical trials information technology infrastructures that are fully interoperable with NCI’s cancer bioinformatics grid (caBIG™) so as to promote data sharing and exchange across trials and sites. Interoperability between clinical trial systems is envisioned to lead to multiple benefits, including, integrated information analysis resulting in better design of targeted therapies, improved efficiency in the planning and conduct of clinical trials, enhanced coordination between clinical trial sites, NCI, and regulatory agencies (local IRBs, FDA). A standardized clinical trial platform will facilitate the ease of future development and deployment of modular clinical trial management applications that are interoperable among the various research stakeholders and also enable integration and organization of the clinical research infrastructure into emerging standard electronic health record systems.

The System Interoperability & Harmonization Work Group is part of the Interoperability SIG within the Clinical Trials Management Systems (CTMS) Workspace.

Who should get involved?

The System Interoperability & Harmonization Work Group encourages anyone who is interested and/or involved in the conduct, administration, and regulation of clinical trials. These include, clinical trialists, clinical investigators, research nurses, informaticists, clinical trial sponsors, IRB and FDA representatives. These and others are key stakeholders whose input, review and feedback is imperative to the successful development and deployment of applications to support clinical trials and enable improved exchange of clinical trial information.

Individuals interested in participating are invited to join the System Interoperability & Harmonization Work Group Listserv. The Listserv serves as the primary means of communication for the SIG. Meeting announcements are posted to the Listserv prior to the meeting.
