Biography

Dr. W. Greg Alvord is Director of the Statistical Consulting Services Department at the NCI – Frederick campus. He received a B.S. in Psychology (1969), an M.A. in Communication (1974), and a Ph.D. in Statistics (1983) from the University of Maryland. He has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications on the application of statistical methodology to diverse areas of biomedical research, including oncology, toxicology, and immunology (see Publications). In addition, he conducts independent research in statistical methodologies (see Statistical Methodologies).

Dr. Alvord and his group of consulting statisticians serve the scientific community at the NCI-Frederick and Bethesda campuses and at other research institutions and universities. The group is proficient in a variety of statistical modeling and hypothesis–testing techniques, including generation of state-of-the-art graphics, generalized linear modeling, longitudinal and hierarchical mixed regression modeling, fuzzy logic and set theory, data mining, and many other univariate and multivariate statistical methods (see Statistical Methodologies). In addition to analysis and interpretation of data, services include active collaboration with investigators in the design of studies and in the preparation of manuscripts.
