Detailed Forecast Discussion
Wednesday, January 14: Light southerly winds will shift to northerly late this afternoon as a weak low-pressure system passes through the Cleveland region. These winds will limit pollutant dispersion; however, low pollutant carryover from previous days will result in Good AQI levels. Thursday, January 15: Surface high pressure building over the Plains will generate moderate northwesterly winds in the Cleveland area, dispersing pollutants and bringing a clean, cold airmass into the region. As a result, AQI levels will be Good. Friday, as surface high pressure moves over Kentucky, it will produce southwesterly winds in Northeast Ohio. These winds will transport pollutants into the region, resulting in Moderate AQI levels. Saturday, moderate to strong southwesterly winds ahead of an approaching low-pressure system will disperse pollutants in Northeast Ohio, leading to Good AQI levels. Sunday, as a low-pressure system moves through the Buckeye State, upper-level low pressure and moderate westerly winds behind the front will keep the lower levels of the atmosphere well-mixed, resulting in Good AQI levels. Monday, moderate southerly winds ahead of an approaching low-pressure system will transport pollutants into the region. Therefore, AQI levels will be Moderate.
