Radiology and Imaging Sciences
The Radiology and Imaging Sciences Department (http://www.cc.nih.gov/drd/) within the Clinical Center at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD is seeking radiologists to join the Body imaging section with emphasis on MRI/ mammography. Applicants should be board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and have an interest in Body radiology in the nation’s premier academic setting for biomedical research. The Body imaging section performs Ultrasound, CT, MR fluoroscopy, plain films and mammography in the NIH Clinical Center including routine and investigational imaging procedures. Fellowship training in cross sectional imaging/ body imaging or MRI is preferred. Radiology positions at the NIH offer outstanding research opportunities within the imaging sciences, as well as in collaboration with the Institutes’ intramural programs. Major new institute research initiatives involving radiology focus on diagnosis and treatment of cancer, genetic diseases, molecular imaging, infectious disease and obesity. A new Imaging Sciences Training Program (ISTP) is also initiated as a collaborative effort with NIBIB to train outstanding academic radiologists who have just finished their training programs and seek dedicated research time.
The Radiology department performs about 60,000 imaging procedures a year, and has neuroradiological and interventional radiology sections. The NIH Clinical Center has recently completed the building of a new state-of-the-art hospital. The Radiology department is newly remodeled including a new MR suite which will house 5 scanners (three 3T and two 1.5T), an intra-operative MR, a robotic interventional radiology suite and new and upgraded CT equipment with two 64-slice scanners including a Siemens Dual source CT, and a Philips 256-slice scanner combined with an interventional suite under installation. A collaborative program between NHLBI cardiology and Radiology has recently begun utilizing a newly installed Toshiba 320 slice CT scanner.
The ideal candidate will be a board certified radiologist with excellent clinical skills and potential for significant academic contributions. The salary and benefits package and research resources will be commensurate with experience.
