Studies

Mass Spectrometry Group

The Mass Spectrometry Group conducts several research studies within the Laboratory of Structural Biology. For more information, please click the following links to individual project pages.

  • Tertiary Structural Characterization of Proteins & Protein Complexes (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/lsb/mass/studies/tertiary.cfm) discusses the group’s primary goal—to develop and apply mass spectrometry-based techniques to determine molecular recognition sites in protein complexes.
  • Characterization of Protein Posttranslational Modifications (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/lsb/mass/studies/characterization.cfm) highlights the importance of understanding these processes and their involvement in the regulation and activity of proteins.
  • Oxidative Stress (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/lsb/mass/studies/oxidative.cfm) damages tissues and leads to illnesses such as cancer and coronary artery disease. The group uses mass spectroscopy to study this damage.
  • Quantitative Mass Spectrometry (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/lsb/mass/studies/spectrometry.cfm) allows the group to provide quantitative analysis of specific metabolic products.
  • Proteomics (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/lsb/mass/studies/proteomics.cfm) is the examination of an organism’s complete complement of proteins and the group uses this branch of study as the focus of collaborative research projects.
