NIH/Fogarty Clinical Research Training Scholars and Fellows ProgramPurposeThe Fogarty International Center in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), and the National Institute of Child Health and Child Development (NICHD) is offering a one-year clinical research training experience for graduate level U.S. students in the health professions. This is an opportunity for highly motivated individuals to experience mentored research training at top-ranked NIH-funded research centers in developing countries. If you are accepted for a scholarship, then Africa, Asia and the Americas are regions of the world that you may find yourself experiencing. The term will begin with an intensive orientation and training program on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland in July of each year. This will be followed by at least 10 months of intense research training at the foreign site. In addition, post-doctoral researchers in active programs including medical residencies and fellowships are also eligible for research training awards. The support of this program is now through the R24 grant which is through Vanderbilt University with Sten Vermund as the principle investigator (Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars Support Center @ Vanderbilt-AAMC (R24TW007988)).
