Outage for Installation of New Disk Storage
Early Saturday, June 15
Titan and South systems will be unaviliable during a scheduled hardware upgrade Saturday morning, June 15, 2002. The outage is expected to be completed in three hours (midnight to 3:00 A.M.). TSO, Wylbur, batch work, databases and network services (e.g., SILK, FTP, ADSM, CONNECT:Direct) will not be available during this time.
The hardware upgrade is installation of new DASD/disk storagethe new Lightning 9900 series disks, manufactured by Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), represent the latest in technology. These devices are more reliable than our current disks and their faster access will speed up processing of batch jobs and interactive sessions. The higher availability capability of these devices may allow us to offer DB2 and IMS on a 24 X 7 basis in the future, as many of our customers have requested.
Impact on Users
The three-hour outage is for actual installation of the disk drivesthe copying will take many hours during which all systems and data will be available. All South system and Titan data sets will be copied to these new DASD/disks devices. The new disks will emulate the current 3390 DASD/disks, so no reblocking of data is needed.
