Dr.Murray


Dr. Murray is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He attended Alabama State University in Montgomery Alabama, where he earned a B.A. degree in Biology and a Masters degree in Microbiology. Subsequently, he earned a Ph.D. in Biology from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Murray began his NIH career in 1985 as a laboratory technician. After completing graduate school, he returned to the NIH, where he conducted his postdoctoral training in the Laboratory of Genetics at the National Institute on Aging (NIA), National Institutes of Health (NIH). As a postdoctoral fellow, his research involved the characterization of chromatin remodeling complexes and their role in gene regulation. In 2005, he became the NIA Intramural Research Program's (IRP) Postdoctoral Recruitment Specialist and Associate Training Director. In these positions, he conducted recruitment activities for postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, staff scientists, staff clinicians, tenure track scientists, and upper level technicial staff. He also worked with search committee chairs and selecting officials to establish an applicant pool for NIA IRP positions. He also designed and implemented training and career development initiatives for postdoctoral fellows training at the NIA.

Dr. Murray has a passion for education and sharing his knowledge in the sciences with students interested in science-related careers. While at the NIA, he was engaged in various education and mentoring initiatives. He co-chaired the NIA Adopt-A-School Program, which shared NIH resources with neighboring Baltimore City public schools. He established the NIA mentoring program, which provided career guidance to high school science students at neighboring Patterson High School. Dr. Murray served as a consult on the Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) Advisory Boards and assisted in the establishment of the science curriculum for BCPS's Paul Laurence Dunbar Health Careers Academy. He also contributed to the Johns Hopkins University sponsored Bond-to-Bond high school mentoring program, which targets urban high school students interested in science-related careers. He also served as mentor to several undergraduate, graduate and professional school students participating in the NIH Summer Internship Program. Dr. Murray previously served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland and is currently an Adjunct Faculty member at the Univeristy of Maryland Univeristy College, College Park, Maryland.
