User Workspace Available within Central Repository Facilities

Not enough bench top or frozen storage space in your lab to requisition fifty boxes for review? Do you need a place to review the materials you have on inventory when you are visiting Frederick from NIH? Have changes in regulations or protocols dictated relabeling of vials? Is there information on vial labels that is not in the database and now needs to be recorded? You asked for it and we heard you.

To meet this need, the NCI-Frederick Central Repository is offering a new service to investigators beginning June 2007. Investigators will be able to perform certain functions within NCI-Frederick Central Repository Facilities. This service provides for a controlled User Workspace within each of the on-base facilities located in Building 434 and 1066. Users will be able to schedule time between the hours of 8:30am and 2pm to use the Workspace. Each Workspace is outfitted with six feet of counter top, chairs, phone and computer with Internet and BioSpecimen Inventory (BSI-II) access. As needed, staff will provide personal protective equipment and materials and supplies needed for safe handling for both user and specimens. Repository staff will be available to assist investigators if required.

Investigators are expected to follow all NCI-Frederick and Fisher BioServices safety policies and procedures while working at the repository. These areas do not meet NCI-Frederick requirements for lab space and thus no opening of specimen vials is permitted. Guidelines for use of the Workspace are available. Please contact repository staff for more information.
