New Building Poised to Join AIDS Fight, Groundbreaking Due Soon

Eleven-year NIH veteran Nancy Boyd is the VRC project officer.

Even with all the construction now under way, including a new hospital, lab building, utility pipe system going in (to be completed in August), and even a new power plant at the heart of campus, chances are that few NIH'ers will begrudge yet another major construction project soon to begin on the lawn just east of Bldg. 37. That's because Bldg. 40, the new 5-story Vaccine Research Center (VRC), will become a launch pad in the quest to create an AIDS vaccine.

Two minutes is all it takes for a house fire to get out of control and kill.

That's what NIH fire prevention authorities want to emphasize to NIH'ers who may think of a fire in their house as a remote possibility. Simple but vital measures can prevent tragedies like the one that claimed the lives of two boys in a Gaithersburg home last month, say fire prevention section (FPS) officials.
