Production Systems Move to IBM z9 BC Processor
As announced in Titan News on August 31, 2006, the NIH Data Center recently purchased a new IBM z9 BC mainframe processor. Even though this necessitates moving the production systems, host names and IP addresses will not change. We have been successfully running our two test systems on the new processor and, aside from clearing up a few minor problems, are ready for the next step. It is now time to announce the date on which we expect to move all production Titan systems to the new mainframe.
The date selected is Sunday, November 19, 2006. We have scheduled a complete service outage of approximately 10 hours from 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on that Sunday. We anticipate that this extended period of time will allow us to resolve any unexpected issues that may arise. Customers planning major changes would be well advised to avoid this date.
If it becomes necessary to postpone this date, we will distribute that information via Titan News.
