Titan Password Rules to Change

Titan password rules will change soon to more closely adhere to NIH’s new Password Policy that requires more stringent rules. CIT will announce a specific date later—it should be around the end of May. Passwords set after that time will need to adhere to the new rules.

The new policy generally follows the rules that NIHnet (NIH Login) enforces, but there are some differences. Because Titan does not distinguish between upper and lower case letters, a change of case is not one of the rules. In addition, only three special characters—#, @ or $—are valid for passwords in a mainframe environment.

The New Rules

Your password:

Although the requirements for your Titan password and your NIH Login password are very similar, we strongly recommend that you do not make both passwords the same. This minimizes the chance that a compromised Windows password could be used to access Titan.

Changing Your Password Now

Your existing password will not be affected by this change, and will remain valid until it expires. However, if you want to change your Titan password ahead of time you can enter a New Password when you see the TSO logon panel or you can use the Web RACF Facility—look under "Mainframe" for Security (RACF).

If you have any questions, please contact the NIH Help Desk at 301-496-4357.
