now! There are programs all around the country that
help middle and high school students immerse themselves
into the sciences. Check out some of the summer programs,
day camps, and outreach programs below and see if any
appeal to you.

Mid-Atlantic
The
Hopkins Pre-College Program: John Hopkins University,
Baltimore, MD
This five-week residential summer program allows students
to gain college credit and academic experience while
taking undergraduate courses at John Hopkins University.
Lehigh
University PreCollege Program: Bethlehem, PA
Lehigh University offers these academic year, summer
outreach, and pre-college programs for K-12 students
and teachers.
National
Institutes of Health: Bethesda, MD, and other locations
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers a wide
variety of research training and career development
programs for high schoolers that provide stipend or
salary support for various periods of time.
Summer
Days Math and Science Camp For Girls: Echo Hill Outdoor
School, MD
The one week session is designed to accommodate students
planning to enter sixth through ninth grade, who have
different backgrounds and level of skill, and who all
share a common enthusiasm for math and science. The
goal is to improve their confidence, strengthen their
skills, and have fun while helping them learn about
possible careers in these fields.
New England
High
School Honors Program: Boston University, Boston, MA
Boston University invites high school students who are
rising seniors to participate in their annual High
School Honors Program. Students who apply choose
between the General Honors Program and the
Research Internship Program in Science and Engineering.
Minority
Introduction to Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Science:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA
Minority Introduction to Engineering, Entrepreneurship,
and Science (MITE2S) is a rigorous six-week residential
summer program that introduces promising high school
juniors to engineering, science, and entrepreneurship.
Research
Science Institute: Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
Cambridge, MA
Each summer, the Research Science Institute (RSI) brings
fifty U.S., and twenty-five international, highly talented
high school students together at MIT to participate
in a six-week academic program that emphasizes the sciences
and mathematics.
Sea
Education Association: Woods Hole, MA
Sea Education Association offers three programs which
enable high school students to gain deeper (pun intended!)
insights into the ocean environment.
Smith
College Summer Science and Engineering Program: Smith
College, North Hampton, MA
The Smith College Summer Science Program gives
high school girls the exceptional opportunity to actively
participate in science and engineering, enhance their
skills, boost their confidence and connect with professionals
who will support their efforts.

Challenge Program: Boston University, Boston, MA
The Boston University Summer Challenge Program
is a two-week, non-credit college preparatory program
for current high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
Worcester
Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Programs for Middle and
High School Girls: WPI, Worcester, MA
These programs are specially designed for middle and
high school girls who are interested in pursuing science
as a career.
South/Southwest
Girls
in Science: southeastern KY
Girls entering 7th grade can apply to this two-year
program which includes a week-long summer camp at the
University of Kentucky, Saturday Academies throughout
the school year, and mentoring relationships.
Girlstart
Summer Camp: Austin, TX
Girlstart offers week-long summer day camps
in math, science and technology for girls in the 4th
through 9th grades at the Girlstart Tech Center
in Austin, Texas.
Women
In Applied Science and Engineering (WISE): Arizona State
University at Tempe
WISE promotes engineering as a career option
though a variety of fun events, as well as day and year-long
programs, for girls who are in middle and high school
(entering 6th - 12th grades).
West
College
of Engineering and Applied Science:University of Colorado
at Boulder
The College of Engineering and Applied Science offers
a variety of programs to students, from enrichment classes
for elementary and middle school children to career
development programs for high school students.

Research Program (“NASA
SHARP”) is designed for students who

Conservation Association's Conservation Work Crew (CWC):

Joining an SCA Conservation Crew is a tuition-free and
co-educational outdoor experience where members complete
essential conservation projects as a team in some of
the most scenic locations imaginable.
