Inhalation fever is an acute flu-like illness that begins several hours after heavy exposure to the causative dust or mist. Inhalation fever may be associated with leukocytosis (high white blood cell count). The chest x-ray is normal. Symptoms resolve spontaneously within 48 hours. Inhalation fever includes metal fume fever, polymer fume fever, humidifier fever, organic dust toxic syndrome, mill fever, and Pontiac fever. |
