First Phase II Trial
of HIV/AIDS Vaccine Starts
The National Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health
(NIH), announced that a new HIV/AIDS vaccine trial has moved into the
second phase of clinical testing. The vaccine is targeted against multiple
HIV subtypes found worldwide.
“This
trial marks an important step in the advancement toward an AIDS vaccine.
The rapid development of this candidate vaccine—less than five years since
the launch of the VRC (Vaccine Research Center)—underscores our commitment
to hasten the day when we have an effective AIDS vaccine,” says NIAID
Director Anthony S. Fauci, M.D.
