Careers Opportunities Fellowship Opportunities in Federal Technology Transfer The NIH Office of Technology Transfer has postdoctoral fellowship opportunities available under the Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) authority to qualified candidates in the field of technology transfer. Technology Transfer Research Training Awards (TTRTA) enable candidates to combine their biomedical, behavioral, or related science background with training and experience in the technology transfer field. The Office of Technology Transfer is responsible for patenting and licensing technologies resulting from basic research to effect their commercialization by business and industry. Fellows will work with OTT patenting and licensing staff and OTT policy staff, NIH scientists and outside industrial or academic collaborators in pursuit of these goals. Fellows will spend 20% of their training time in an assigned NIH laboratory, and 80% at OTT. Duties & Responsibilities Fellows will receive hands-on specialized training. Fellows will be mentored in and assigned tasks related to: Intellectual Property Basics Valuation of Technology Marketing of Technology Introduction to Licensing and Negotiation Practices Monitoring of Technology Development Customer Service and Interpersonal Relations Who May Apply Candidates must have received a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., D.O., Pharm.D., or equivalent degree in biomedical, behavioral, or related science. Candidates must be a Postdoctoral IRTA or CRTA with up to five years of relevant postdoctoral research experience. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Special notes: Fellows are not employees of the Federal Government. As such, Technology Transfer IRTA trainees may not represent the Government in negotiations or sing documents on behalf of the Government. These fellowships require a two-year commitment on the part of candidates. Compensation & Benefits Stipends Stipends are determined by the level of education and the number of years of experience post-graduation, and are based on approved Postdoctoral IRTA stipend ranges. Stipends are paid monthly in arrears. Annual stipend increases may be given on a Fellow´s anniversary date. Health Insurance An approved plan of health insurance is available through the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES).
