Research

Dr. Goldsmith heads the CCR's Antibody Production and Purification Unit (APPU), within the Office of Science and Technology Partnerships. The APPU designs and produces peptide-specific antibodies to proteins of interest to the CCR principal investigators.

After consultation with each investigator, Dr. Goldsmith and his staff determine the peptide sequences to be used as antigens for antibody production, conjugate these peptides to carrier proteins for immunization, affinity purify the resulting antibodies, and evaluate their specificity by western blot analysis. APPU staff members have extensive experience in formatting diagnostic assays using enzymatic or fluorescent labels that can conjugate to these antibodies. When applicable, APPU can help investigators with the development of immunoassays to their proteins.
