Abstract: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among people with diabetes, accounting for at least two out of three diabetes-related deaths. This fact sheet on physical activity for people with diabetes is from a set of 26 reproducible patient education handouts on topics related to diabetes CVD. The fact sheet first reviews the importance of physical activity for people with diabetes, then suggests ways to begin incorporating physical activity into one's regular habits. The fact sheet defines a comprehensive physical activity routine as including four kinds of activities: being active throughout the day, aerobic exercise, strength training, and flexibility exercises (such as stretching). The fact sheet then offers practical suggestions in each of these four areas. Blank space is available for readers to record their plan for each area. 1 figure.
