Conference on Drug Abuse (CODA)
The spotlight will be on drug abuse and addiction research, everything from behavioral neuroscience to newly developed therapeutic techniques, at a special conference to be held at the 1996 Annual American Psychological Association (APA) Convention in Toronto, Canada, August 9-13, 1996.
The goals of the Conference on Drug Abuse, which NIDA is cosponsoring with the APA Science Directorate, are to highlight state-of-the-art research on drug abuse and addiction and disseminate the findings from this research to treatment and prevention practitioners, stimulate new research and encourage collaborative activities, and attract new researchers to the field.
Among the scheduled keynote speakers are NIDA Director Dr. Alan I. Leshner; Dr. Marsha M. Linehan of the University of Washington; Dr. David F. Musto of Yale University School of Medicine; Dr. George DeLeon of the National Development Research Institutes, Inc., in New York; Dr. George F. Koob of Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California; Dr. Robert J. Pandina of Rutgers University in New Jersey; Dr. Robin Room of TorontoÕs Addiction Research Foundation; and other distinguished scientists.
The conference will also feature symposia, workshops, presentations of research papers, poster sessions, and several special activities. About 15,000 clinicians, researchers, educators, policy and planning professionals, and graduate students are expected to attend the APA Convention.
