Evaluation Reporting

The NIH is required to report to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on its evaluation activities. These reporting requirements provide the HHS information on past (completed), present (in progress) and future (planned) evaluations from HHS agencies and offices.

Performance Improvement: Evaluation Activities of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is the HHS annual report to Congress summarizing the previous fiscal year evaluation efforts. This report provides Congress with evaluation information on the Department's programs, policies, activities, and strategies and is useful to health and human service researchers, stakeholders and practitioners who use the information to assist their work.

Use of Public Health Service Evaluation Set-Aside Authority for FY 2005: The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Public Health Service Evaluation Set-Aside Program, authorized by Section 241 of the U.S. Public Health Service Act, plays a role in the improvement of programs and services of the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS), through the collection of information on program performance. Studies supported by these evaluation set-aside funds serve decision makers in Federal, State, and local governments, and private sector public health research, education, and practice communities by providing valuable information on how programs are working.

The EB also prepares or contributes to several NIH annual reports, that are combined with the reports of other HHS agencies to convey information to Congress or the Office of Management and Budget:
