System Requirements

Visual Performance Suite (VPS) is a web-based application that is accessible via the NIH Intranet.  To provide for a more interactive user experience, Flash technology has been employed in various parts of the VPS software.  Because Flash technology places certain demands on computers, the VPS system may encounter problems running on computers that do not have enough memory or a fast enough CPU.

The VPS system generates a variety of GPRA reports in Microsoft Word format.  Because of incompatibilities between the various versions of Microsoft Office, a user may experience formatting inconsistencies when using the VPS system with older versions of Microsoft Office.  VPS users are therefore encouraged to have the following minimum system requirements installed on their computer when using the system:

Minimum System Requirements

CPU

Pentium 3, 600 MHz

RAM

512 MB

Hard Disk Space

100 MB

Operating System

Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or higher installed (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)

Browser

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.2800 or higher installed  (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)

Macromedia Flash Player

Flash Player 7.0.19 (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash)

Microsoft Office

Office XP with Service Pack 3 or higher installed (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)

Screen Resolution

1024 x 768

These are the minimum acceptable system requirements.  Even with these minimum requirements, a user might receive a Macromedia Flash Player warning that the script will run slowly when a very large strategy map is being displayed or if other applications are running concurrently with VPS.  Because the VPS system displays active links by opening other windows on a user’s computer, it is recommended that all pop-up blockers be turned off.  If the deactivation of such blockers is not possible, a user may press the control key before clicking on a given link or icon to bypass the pop-up blocking capability on his or her computer.
