#946Perl Introduction for ISSOs
 
Description:
The course will cover Perl basics and best practices. Beginner's will get a bearing for how to write effective Perl programs and a list of resources available to them as they start out. More advanced Perl Programmers will gain some insight into best practices and answers to why those practices exist. Perl examples will focus on security, databases, and web programming.

Familiarity with one or more of the following is assumed: Perl, PHP, C, C++, C#, VisualBasic, Shell Scripting, SQL, Pascal, Java, Python, Ruby, TCL, .Net, Haskel, Lisp
 
Objectives:
Topics will include:
  • Perl basics
  • Perl best practices
  • Perl resources
  • Use cases
  • Hands-on exercises
  • where to get more help learning and using Perl
The ultimate goal is to give you better control over your data.
Who should attend:
NIH staff with an interest, especially ISSOs, in Perl and basic understanding of computer programming languages
