#367Building a Home Network
 
Description:
This course will discuss building a complete home network that will allow Internet access sharing using Windows 2000, Me, and XP ICS (Internet Connection Sharing). We will discuss designing and setting up a home network; comparing different network hardware devices, how they work and what works best for your home network. After the network is setup, we will then discuss how to protect your network using Personal Firewalls and troubleshooting common problems. The lecture will be followed by a demo lab to show how everything works together.

  • DSL, 56K and Cable Modem Services
  • Hubs, switches, cable/DSL routers and other home network hardware
  • Home network concepts, designing and setup
  • Advantages of wired vs. wireless networks
  • Sharing an internet connection with multiple PC's on your home network
  • Securing your home network with personal firewalls
  • Network troubleshooting of your home network
  • Demo lab
