Description:
CRIS is the Clinical Research Information System used by the NIH Clinical Center and Institute staff for viewing, ordering, and documenting patient care.

This course offers four different sections and staff may attend the specific section that is required for their particular job responsibilities. The sections are designed to provide hands-on experience with the CRIS.

The five Open Course sessions are:
  • Introduction to CRIS - This course provides an opportunity for users of the CRIS to practice locating patients, creating patient lists, viewing results, orders and clinical documentation, and retrieving and printing reports.
  • CRIS Prescriber Training - This course is specifically designed for credentialed NIH Physicians and other prescribers to offer hands-on experience in the use of the CRIS for viewing patient information, entering clinical documentation, and entering orders.
  • CRIS Non-Prescriber Order Entry - This course provides hands-on experience for clinicians on how to enter, review and edit orders in the CRIS.
  • CRIS Clinical Documentation - This course offers hands-on practice for clinicians on how to enter, review and edit clinical documentation in the CRIS through the use of flowsheets, structured notes and free-text notes. Click here for the Course Description
  • CRIS Clinical Documentation with Medication Charting - This course provides instruction and hands-on practice for clinicians on how to enter, review and edit clinical documentation in CRIS through the use of flowsheets, structured notes, free-text notes, and the Worklist Manager.
Staff should only sign up for one section during a four hour time period.
Review of the appropriate computer based training module is recommended. All CRIS Web Based Training modules are located on the CRIS website.

It is recommended that before attending class, students complete and return a CRIS Access Form, which is required for assignment of privileges to access the CRIS. For information on how to get a CRIS account, click here.

Classes have a maximum numbers of attendees and can fill quickly. Any student who applies for a class that has filled but has not yet been marked as full will be contacted to reschedule.

All CRIS course sessions are held at the Clinical Center (Building 10) in the Department of Clinical Research Informatics (DCRI) Training Room. Entrance to the department is located on the first floor, room 1C-290.
Who should attend:
Nursing and ancillary staff that are required to enter orders on behalf of a prescriber in CRIS. Attendance is based on user's supervisor recommendation/decision.
