NINDS CHANGE IN K08 MCSDA PROGRAM:  NOTICE OF LIMITED COMPETITION

This notice of limited competition provides an update to the NINDS Notice NS-
00-001 “Changes in K08 MCSDA Program,” published in the NIH Guide, November 
9, 1999 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-NS-00-001.html).

In November 1999, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke 
(NINDS) announced a change in the K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Development 
Award (MCSDA).  Beginning with the February 1, 2000 receipt date, 
applications to the NINDS for the K08 award may request 3-5 years of support.  
Previously, applications were limited to requesting three years of support.

The NINDS is now inviting competing continuation applications from those 
existing grantees with 3-year K08 MCSDA awards.  Eligible grantees are 
invited to submit proposals describing the research and career development 
plans to be continued in their parent grant.  The continuation phase is 
intended to provide up to two years (years 4 and 5) of funding for grantees 
to enable them to more successfully complete the research proposed in their 
original grant application, and to bolster competitiveness for independent 
funding during the performance period of the K08 award.  The NINDS will 
accept competitive continuation applications according to the receipt 
schedule outlined below.

Receipt Date: The first receipt deadline for these applications will be 
August 10, 2000 (this is a one-time-only date for those who have a current 
K08 with the project period ending in FY 2000).  Subsequent applications 
should be submitted for the regular receipt dates of November 1, March 1, and 
July 1, no less than 8 months prior to the end date of the current 3-year K08 
MCSDA award.
