Emerging Research Interests

DESPR supports the full range of drug abuse epidemiology, prevention, and services research. Within these domains, current areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to the following:

Division's Major Goals:

  • Promote the development of new theoretical approaches to epidemiology, services and prevention research

  • Determine how intrapersonal and environmental factors interact with each other and with genetic factors, across development in the course of drug abuse/addictions

Epidemiology Research Branch (ERB) Goals:

  • Maximize Return on Investments by promoting secondary data analysis

  • Rapid assessment of emerging trends
    Program Contact: Moira O'Brien

  • Expand Translation Research to address:
    • Interactions of intrapersonal and environmental factors, across development

    • Translation of epidemiology research into clinical interventions

    • Linking dynamics of HIV/AIDS transmission and disease progression to prevention intervention and services
