Annual Career Opportunities in Research (COR) Education and Training Colloquium

The annual NIMH COR Colloquium is a unique scientific meeting that convenes junior and senior undergraduate honors students (Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award recipients) in the NIMH COR Program to demonstrate the research knowledge and skills they have acquired from the COR Honors and Research curricula. The students deliver scientific talks, present research posters, and engage in dialog with established scientists from a variety of institutions and NIH.

These NIMH COR scholars attend institutions with predominantly racial and ethnic minority student enrollments, including Historical Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions. The COR scholars are some of the best and brightest research trainees in the nation and are excellent candidates for graduate doctoral training programs in mental health research. Hence, a graduate recruitment fair is an integral part of the annual agenda.

During the colloquium, approximately 160 COR scholars from 18 colleges or universities, along with their faculty mentors, will interact with their counterparts, graduate and professional school training directors, and NIMH program staff. NIMH COR alumni are invited to talk about their graduate training experiences in a "Life After COR" panel, and COR graduates who have become independent investigators (COR Stars) are invited plenary session presenters. National leaders in mental health research routinely join the meeting as keynote speakers to update the audience on national mental health research issues and to encourage the NIMH COR scholars to achieve the goal of becoming an independent mental health investigator.
