Biosafety Level 4 Laboratory Tour

Introduction

In Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4) laboratories, scientists study some of the world's potentially most dangerous microbes. These labs are designed to prevent microbes from being released into the environment and to provide maximum safety for the scientists. When a laboratory is designated BSL-4, that means the highest possible containment measures are in place.

On the following pages, you will have the opportunity to take a virtual tour of a BSL-4 laboratory and learn about the safety measures there. So get ready to pass through security, put on your protective suit, and see what the inside of these laboratories actually looks like.
