Visiting NIEHS

Security Measures for Visitors to NIEHS

Visiting NIEHS Since the tragedy of September 11, 2001, the NIEHS, along with other federal and private organizations, has been forced to increase security measures for our facilities. The notice and approval process prescribed below is necessary to ensure that an event does not unnecessarily increase the security risk to NIEHS, strain the NIEHS central service resources, or create a dangerous situation.

Under the current policy, security essentially requires that:

  • the purpose of a visit must be official,
  • the visit should be expected and approved by a "host" employee, and
  • visitors must show a photo ID (driver's license or one of the following: company ID, government ID, or university ID) at the campus entrance

In addition, visitors may be required to consent to a search of their vehicles. We regret the inconvenience this causes.
