Office of Intramural Training and Education Steering Committee

Purpose

The NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education Steering Committee is advisory to the Director, Office of Intramural Training and Education (OITE), and to the Deputy Director for Intramural Research. It provides advice on policy matters regarding intramural research training programs at the high school, college, postbaccalaureate, predoctoral, and postdoctoral levels. The committee also reviews issues regarding the NIH Visiting Program that relate to balance and equity between foreign and domestic scientists. Members are appointed by the Deputy Director for Intramural Research.

In the past the Committee has been involved in a variety of issues including the recruitment of the OITE Director, the recruitment of Clinical Fellows, the development of an International Medical Scholars Program, and the creation of a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Opportunities Catalogue.

In September 2008, the Steering Committee approved a Charter to cover its functions and structures.
