Russell Murray II, 83, a weapons analyst and assistant secretary of defense who played a role in long-range military planning and was known for raising concerns about the high cost of many weapons systems, died of cancer Jan. 26 at his home in Alexandria.


Lionel C. 'Lee' Barrow Jr., 82

Advertising Executive, Civil Rights Activist

Lionel C. "Lee" Barrow Jr., 82, a former advertising executive and civil rights activist who retired in 1985 after 10 years as dean of the Howard University School of Communications, died Jan. 23 at a hospice in Tampa, Fla. He had prostate cancer.
