Abstract: (CIT): Obesity is rapidly increasing in prevalence in the developed and developing world, is associated with considerable morbidity involving multiple organ systems, and is a cause of health disparities in minority populations. The increasing prevalence is most alarming in children and adolescents. In the last decade there has been an exponential increase in our understanding of physiologic and molecular mechanisms regulating this energy imbalance in humans. This knowledge should lead to increasingly effective preventive and therapeutic approaches to combat this growing energy crisis. Program: Why are Some People Obese?
