Carbon Capture and Storage: Blue-Sky Technology or Just Blowing Smoke? Charles W. Schmidt Abstract Despite growing interest in alternative fuels and energy sources, carbon dioxide (CO2) -emitting technologies are, for the time being, part of the global reality. One option to reduce CO2 emissions is carbon capture and storage (CCS) , a suite of practices that find someplace to stash the gas rather than releasing it to the atmosphere. Today, industry must decide which CCS technological directions to focus on and how to pay for implementing CCS on a broad scale. Questions about the limitations of the various storage options also need to be addressed. The full version of this article is available for free in HTML or PDF formats. |
