| The National Institute on Aging initiated this annual award lecture in 1990 in honor of Nathan W. Shock, former NIA Scientific Director and NIH Scientist Emeritus, to pay tribute to his pioneering efforts in the field of gerontology. In addition, this award provides an annual opportunity to recognize a scientist, who has made significant contributions to our understanding of the basic mechanisms of aging. |  |
