Procedure

Once a year, before May Council, use the MERIT Pay System module to identify and rank at least five R01 applications within the payline for method to extend research in time awards. Nominations should be ranked before the pre-Council meeting with the NIAID director.

In the Parameter Selection screen, choose applications to view by division, type, and percentile score. DAIT and DMID may select Type 1 and 2, while DAIDS may select only Type 2 applications. You can also define the highest percentile score that you wish to view in the Set Percentile Upper Limit field. Then select the function you wish to perform.

Program officers

  • The Nominate MERIT Awardees function brings up a list of applications with the selected percentile range.
    • Enter "M" in the Type column of all applications that you wish to nominate. Nominated application records are purple.
    • Explain nominations in the Notes column.
